VieTrade, a Vietnam-based company, and MingHsin University of Science and Technology (MUST) signed a cooperation agreement on May 21 to jointly train future semiconductor talent in Vietnam for SOVICO Group and its affiliated Hoa Binh University. The signing ceremony was held by MUST Vice President Dr. Liao Hsin-te and VieTrade CEO James Chen, who signed the semiconductor talent training program on behalf of both parties. VieTrade also signed a talent exchange agreement with Hoa Binh University. VieTrade and SOVICO have a long-standing partnership, and the cooperation plan with the Taiwan Semiconductor Academy is commissioned by SOVICO to VieTrade.
Dr. Liao said that Vietnam plans to train 15,000 chip design engineers and 35,000 semiconductor manufacturing engineers in the next six years, including 5,000 engineers specializing in AI technology. These engineers will be involved in the chip manufacturing process. This international cooperation in semiconductor talent training provides strong support for the Vietnamese government’s policy goal of training 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030, especially professional talents in chip design and manufacturing technology.
VieTrade CEO James Chen said that as the global semiconductor industry heats up, Hoa Binh University is planning to set up specialized semiconductor courses to meet talent needs. Therefore, SOVICO Group, through VieTrade’s cooperation with MUST, has introduced the semiconductor academy training courses to establish a new cooperation model for talent training between Taiwan and Vietnam.
SOVICO Group has more than 20 subsidiaries and is one of the largest diversified groups in Vietnam, with business covering aviation, oil products trading and gas stations, real estate, banking and other diversified businesses. Hoa Binh University is one of the educational institutions under SOVICO. VieTrade is a company jointly established by Vietnamese and Taiwanese businessmen, headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City. Its product markets include medical biotechnology, health food, cosmetics, wind power generation, and semiconductors. It has a long-standing partnership with SOVICO Group.
The cooperation between MUST, VieTrade, and Hoa Binh University will also expand to other international sister universities to cooperate on semiconductor talent training courses. This talent training program will promote the development of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.
